The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was murdered on the night of October 12, 2024, in Bandra East, Mumbai. Siddique was shot by three attackers as he was exiting his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office. Despite having Y-category security, he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at Lilavati Hospital. This incident has caused political turmoil, with opposition parties criticizing the ruling state government for the rising criminal activities and demanding accountability.
Mumbai police have confirmed the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is linked to other high-profile cases, including the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. Following the shooting, two suspects have been detained, while a third remains at large. The case has been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch for further investigation.
This murder comes just before the state assembly elections in November and six months after an attack outside the residence of Salman Khan, who was a close friend of Siddique. Political leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar, have condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation into the deteriorating law and order situation in Maharashtra.
